Finally out of the city and into the slums. Mzi arranged for us a volunteer working-day in Soweto. We traveled with 15 people all residing in friends accommodation. Immedietlly i saw the differences between a Township-city and a normal city. The streets are in a bad condition, a lot of waste spread all over the sidewalks, allmost black people, gansters and Poverty. Just arrived at work, the children ran already towards us. All of them found in poor circumstances or adopted.
There they get some kind of education, a social life and nutrition. Our work consists of: tidying, cleaning, sorting and play with the children. By chance that day was a children's birthday and the food we had bought was perfect for this event. To see how a child's eyes shine, that's all that matters in this world. After all this the head of the institution led us through Soweto. We saw a lot of poorness and undeveloped areas but also the tourist side of soweto. The Goverment made out of soweto an attractive tourist spot.
They build a small bridge over the township, a monument and stuff like that...TIA... The adults were a little skeptical but the children followed us at every turn. Rick and I played constantly with them: chasing, jump around and piggybacking. Our last gift was a donation of 50 bugs each, so that they can continue to look to the future.
Heel indrukwekkend zeg! Mooi om te zien dat jullie daar zoveel kunnen betekenen. groeten Bart
